My Story

Friends

I am here to ask for your support……..

As most of you know I sit on the Committee of the Melbourne Racing Club. As part of my commitments in this regard the MRC Foundation is always looking for ways to support organisations and activities that it values. The National Jockeys Trust is one such organisation. The National Jockeys Trust was established by the Australian Jockeys Association in 2004 to provide support for riders who have encountered life changing, career ending injuries and who are in need of assistance. The principal purpose of the National Jockeys Trust is to provide support for former and current jockeys, and their families who are in necessitous circumstances as a result of serious injury, illness or death of a jockey.

Every year the National Jockeys Trust has a fundraising T20 cricket game which………………….yes you guessed it…………..I have been roped into playing in! It has been 20 years since I picked up a cricket bat (other than in the backyard), my knees are probably not what they used to be, and let’s face it I am not as fit (or as light) as I once was! In saying that I am looking forward to getting involved.

The match is next Monday January 20………

This year I like most Australians have been shocked and saddened by the bushfire crisis and the tragic circumstances it has brought to people, local communities, native animals and livestock. The National Jockeys Trust has made a decision that the net proceeds from the game will be directed to charitable organisations providing care and assistance to animals affected by the current bushfire crisis. This is a gesture of support from the NJT to the current crisis directing funds raised from the event to animal welfare organisations operating directly in fire-impacted states to help rescue and treat injured wildlife and livestock.

So friends I am now seeking your help. I appreciate that everyone is doing their bit for the victims of the bushfires in their own way, with the outpouring of support from Australians being overwhelmingly generous.

If you are also able to support the NJT in their pledge it would be much appreciated. You can do so by using the 'Give Now' button in the link below.

Thanks so much.
Mark

PS – I will be sure to post some pictures / media for peoples entertainment as and when it comes to hand.

Net proceeds from this month’s T20 Cricket fundraiser will be directed to charitable organisations providing care and assistance to animals affected by the current bushfire crisis.
While we greatly value the contribution that this event makes to the National Jockeys Trust each year, we simply cannot ignore the dire and pressing need to support those organisations working to save the lives of animals injured and at risk during these bushfires. We will always need the racing community behind us to continue our work, but at this time we will be redirecting funds to animal welfare organisations operating in fire-impacted states to help rescue and treat injured wildlife and livestock. Please help us by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about National Jockeys Trust T20 Cricket Match 2020, the greater the impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
